Pay per click search is a great way to get your site listed on the search engines quickly and without big budgets. Google and Yahoo run pay per click search programs and MSN will soon be joining them.
Pay per click search listings are the advertisements you see standing out from the standard listings – listed down the right hand side of the page in Google and Yahoo. These ads differ from 'normal' advertising in that you only pay for successful clicks – that is, when someone clicks on your ad to view your site.
In order to get started with pay per click search ads, you need to choose a strong set of keywords relating to your content which might be searched upon. Each of these keywords is then allocated a cost per click, or bid, within your pay per click account. The rate can vary from pennies to several dollars, depending on how popular the keyword is and how many people are competing for it at any given time.
Pay per click search engines may also list your ads on other sites on their network, or their affiliates, broadening your exposure. The great thing about pay per click search is that you do not need to wait months for your listings to appear on the search engines before seeing the effects. Your ads will appear sometimes within minutes after setting up your campaign, meaning that for the new site looking for customers, or for selling items for particular times of year, pay per click search can almost guarantee you visitors when you need them.
Pay per click search needn't cost the earth to set up. You control how much each click will cost you. If 'keyword1' is currently bidding at a minimum of $0.10 to be active (you will find this information in your account), you can choose to leave it at that, or raise the chances of being the top listed ad by upping your bid a little.
An 'active' keyword is simply one which has a sufficiently high bid placed on it to be eligible to be chosen for a search on that keyword. The more people want to be top for that keyword, the higher the bidding gets. This may change regularly and you need to keep track of the progress of your pay per click search account to make sure you are not bidding too low for your keywords to be active, or to see that you are not paying over the odds. Get that sussed, and you have a very effective marketing campaign with a very manageable budget by using pay per click search.
